On the Road to Revolutionizing Workers’ Comp Claims Management
By Michael Schwabrow
In our last post, we illuminated the pioneering partnership that has the potential to transform the Workers’ Comp industry between Cloverleaf Analytics and the Pennsylvania Compensation Rating Bureau (PCRB). This fusion of visionary tech and deep-rooted industry acumen is taking shape nicely as PCRB moves to go live on Cloverleaf. In this post, we’ll focus on an area that is part of the lifeblood of the WC industry – claims management.
Through the power of the Cloverleaf platform, PCRB business and technology leaders are reimagining how they can manage and visualize claim data. Instead of relying on the status quo of static graphs, charts, and reports, PCRB is using Cloverleaf to create a map of claims akin to the presentation in healthcare of a body part map.

Amidst this ambitious overhaul, the initiative is not just about the introduction of advanced analytics tools. It symbolizes a strategic transformation in claims processing, magnifying support for PCRB’s 400+ insurer members while amplifying the safety and well-being of workers. As PCRB leverages key metrics they are creating a new definition of business intelligence within the WC industry.
Brent Otto, FCAS, MAA, Vice President of Actuarial Services and Chief Actuary from the PCRB said, “We are looking to introduce more metrics by geographic segments including being able to drill down from state to region, to county, to city and zip. We also plan to create a custom body map that will allow the user to click on parts of the body to gain insights into claim data that is organized by part of the body, nature of the injury, and causes of loss.”
When PCRB launches these capabilities in Cloverleaf it will be the first time that the organization has provided geographic and claim characteristic data allowing users to dynamically filter and view any segment. This will enable users to easily benchmark how their patterns compare against statewide values.
Having this data presented in a format like a body part map will give anyone inside a Workers’ Comp insurer a better way to understand how they process claims, enhance how they address loss control concerns, and elevate the safety of workers.
Bill Taylor, President and Chief Executive Officer of PCRB added, “There is a lot of underlying infrastructure being developed behind the dashboards and Cloverleaf has provided expertise and partnered with us to build this new business intelligence and analytics platform.”
As PCRB staff hone their competencies with the new visualizations, a constructive collaboration between in-depth training and comprehensive support from Cloverleaf is ensuring that these enhancements herald a marked uptick in both efficiency and accuracy for the business.
Stay tuned for more exciting updates from PCRB and Cloverleaf.
